Chapter Six

Kimball had just completed his first of many rounds of physical therapy. Although he was fiercely independent, he hadn’t argued when Grayson talked Dr. Sheehan into hiring a physical therapist for the clinic.

And Kimball wasn’t Marc McCoy’s only patient. King had signed up, as well. King had been shot by a silver bullet by his mate’s father, who had wanted Marius to suffer for the death of Marius’s brother. From what Kimball had learned, silver was a shifter’s death sentence if not treated immediately. Luckily King had survived, but his leg was messed up and he sometimes had difficulty breathing.

Kimball sat on the examination bed, sweaty, in pain, and wishing he could slug Marc for making him work that damn hard. But Kimball wanted to walk normally again—or as close to normally as he could get, so the pain was worth the possible gain.

“You did great,” Marc said with a charming smile that made his blue eyes sparkle and dimples appear. If Kimball thought the workout had been painful, the rubdown was torturous. His muscles screamed in protest as he leaned back on his arms, staring up at the ceiling.

“Just so you know,” Kimball said, his jaw clenched to the point he felt his teeth were about to crack, “I’m five seconds away from slugging you.”

Marc gave a deep, masculine chuckle. He had to be about six one or six two and was muscular with dark good looks that would make any man or woman’s head turn. “Then I’m doing my job.”

Kimball wasn’t sure if the rubdown was so agonizing because he was already in pain or because Marc was a wolf shifter who pressed too hard.

“How’d things go?” Dr. McNeal popped his head into the room. As soon as he opened the door, Kimball heard the sound of construction. New additions were being made to the clinic, although it was barely a year old. Marc was getting his own therapy workout room and Sebastian wanted the clinic to be more than just an urgent care and a family practice. Kimball still wasn’t sure what all was being added on, but he’d heard that Dr. McNeal had talked with another doctor already, as well as a few other medical personal.

That didn’t bother Kimball too much. A bigger staff meant he would have more free time, but it also meant he wouldn’t be working all those crazy hours and getting the overtime.

“I think you hired a hit man who likes to torment his victims before killing them,” Kimball gripped.

“Then he’s doing his job,” Dr. McNeal said.

“Now you sound like Marc,” Kimball said.

Marc backed away and grabbed a towel to wipe off the liniment he’d been using on Kimball’s leg. He gave Kimball another one of his electrifying smiles. Kimball didn’t think the therapist was flirting with him but that Marc just truly cared about his patients. “You’re all set. I’ll see you next time.”

“If I show up,” Kimball grumbled, but he knew he would.

Grayson entered the room and grinned at Kimball.
